(From The President’s Devotional)

Teach us, O Lord, the disciplines of patience, for we find that to wait is often harder than to work.
When we wait upon Thee, we shall not be shamed, but shall renew our strength.
May we be willing to stop our feverish activities and listen to what Thou hast to say, that our prayers shall not be the sending of night letters, but conversations with God.
This we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen. (Rev. Peter Marshall, D.D., prayer in congress, June 27, 1947)

“Let’s start a conversation with God. A give and a take.

“Lord, here’s what I want. Here are my desires and dreams. I’m not sure of my motives; they’re cloudy at times. But I know you can help clarify them. What do you want? What do you want, for me?

“And then, we listen. We keep watching, praying, and listening. As all around us, his answers unfold. Amen.”

To this, Father, I cry out, “Yes and amen!” Help me to wait and listen after I have prayed. Help me to not be the only one talking in our conversations. Prayer is more than me talking to you; it is me listening to you, as well. It should be conversation, not one-sided talking. Help me to wait. Help me to listen. Help me to be still and know . . .

Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

Grace and peace, friends.
