Today is Monday, May 29, 2017. Memorial Day in the U.S. Day 21,627. FIVE days until our Oregon vacation!
“A sure cure for seasickness is to sit under a tree.” ~ Spike Milligan
Skosh ~ a small amount; bit, smidgen.
Today is Paper Clip Day. What’s so special about that, you ask? I’ll tell you. Do you know what the French word for “paper clip” is? It’s “trombone.” So, in French, today is Trombone Day. So there.
We’re off work today, since it’s Memorial Day. The only things we really have planned is to go pick up my car in a little while, as the dealership has completed the regularly scheduled maintenance. Then, the plan is to swing by the grocery store on the way home and get that knocked out. After that, more R&R to get ready to finish this four-day work week. Which will be followed by our vacation. We’re pretty excited about that.
Before we went bowling, we all stopped at Slim Chickens for lunch. We really enjoyed the food, there, and we had a great time talking with our friends. I’m glad we did that before bowling, because it was a little too hectic and noisy at the bowling alley to have any kind of real conversation. We bowled two games, and I averaged around 140, which I’m pretty happy about. Our new bowling league begins this coming Wednesday evening, and we are pretty excited about that. Hopefully, bowling three games in one session won’t wear us out too much. 😀
TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL AND PRAYERS
All Scriptures are from the ESV unless otherwise noted
(From The Divine Hours)
Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!
O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.
Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.
Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy
before the LORD, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.
Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre!
He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills.
He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry.
His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.
Father, I am grateful for the life with which you have blessed us.
I am grateful for the church family in which you have placed us.
I am grateful for friends who desire to know us better.
Help me to be even more grateful for all of these things.
Help me to be more grateful for life in Christ.
May my mind, soul, body, and spirit be transformed.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
Grace and peace, friends.
