Vacation Summary 2017

This vacation started out by looking like it wasn’t going to happen. It eventually proved to be one of our best vacations ever!

We landed in Portland Saturday evening, picked up our rental and headed for Rockaway Beach. Along the way, we were greeted by some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. The drive through the Tillamook Forest is unbelievable.

I don’t intend to recap the whole week, here, as I have gone into detail in other blog posts. I just want to share some more photos that I was unable to upload because of the poor wi-fi service.

The thing we saw the most of, of course, is the Pacific Ocean.

Our house was within view of a rock formation called Twin Rocks.

We were treated to some beautiful sunsets.

Sunday, we saw infamous Haystack Rock, featured in The Goonies.

There was another rock formation on the other end of Cannon Beach.

We also went to Ecola State Park, which provided some extravagant views of Cannon Beach, as well as a view of the Tillamook Lighthouse, also known as Terrible Tilly.

Another nice park guest offered to take a picture of C and me.

Several evenings, I went for a walk on the beach, before sunset. The wind picked up, from the north, every afternoon around five o’clock. You can see the ripples in the sand, along with the grooves made by objects that got in the way.

I even got some shots of an almost full moon.

Monday, we took a stroll down south on Rockaway Beach. We saw an adorable Scottie dog.

We got an even better view of Twin Rocks.

We found a whole sand dollar!

That evening, on my walk, I encountered a convention of seagulls.

Two of them posed for me.

Tuesday, we headed back in to Portland, where we stopped at Voodoo Donuts.

Then we saw Multnomah Falls.

Wednesday, we visited the Tillamook Cheese Factory. No tours, due to construction, but plenty of samples.

We drove to Munson Creek Falls.

From there, we traveled to Cape Meares, where my camera battery died.

At Cape Meares, there is an “octopus tree”

And a small lighthouse

We took a sefie at the lighthouse

Wednesday evening, we had some clam chowder at this place in Rockaway Beach. If you ever go to Rockaway Beach, be sure and get some clam chowder at the Old Oregon Smokehouse.

Thursday, we drove to Lincoln City, to the Chinook Winds casino. There aren’t any pictures from Thursday, but we had a great time, just like all the other drives, it was a spectacular trip.

Friday, C and I drove around and just took pictures. We got closer to Twin Rocks and took some side roads.

I think that’s the best of all the pictures. We got back home at around 8:30 last night. We are content as can be with this vacation. Oregon is the most beautiful place I have been, up to this point in my life.

Grace and peace, friends.

  1. My friend’s sister recently moved to Oregon, I’m pretty sure she is living outside of Portland. I have never been to Oregon myself, but I know that it’s a foodie haven.

Big props on the beautiful catalog of vacation photos.

PS- The famous Voodoo Doll! It’s one of my favorite snapshots. 🙂
