Psalm 19

“We still do not know one thousandth of one percent of what nature has revealed to us.”~~Albert Einstein
(BrainyQuote)

Today’s word of the day, from Merriam-Webster, is obstreperous, “difficult to control and often noisy.”

Today is International Have Fun At Work Day. Right. As if.

We had a nice trip to Henderson, yesterday afternoon. We got away when I planned to, if not just a bit early. We stopped in Terrell, at Buc-Ees, for a bit, then made it to the hotel at about 3:30PM. The hotel is nice, no complaints. Free breakfast and wi-fi . . . what more could you ask for, right? After checking in, we drove back out to Pirtle to see if we could find Grandmama’s old house. It is still there. The people who bought the place from my Dad have built a new house right behind Grandmama’s house, but, for some reason, have not torn it down, yet. I took a couple of pictures of it, and then we went on back to the hotel. Today, I may drive back out there and find the cemetery.

Today, after the funeral, we plan to find the cemetery where my grandmother and granddaddy on my mother’s side are buried. The visitation last night was good. Of course, there were a lot of people I didn’t know. I did speak with Jeremy’s father for a few minutes. I had not seen him in many years, as he and my cousin divorced quite some time ago. When I finally saw my cousin, Joan, we cried on each other’s shoulders for a good bit. My heart is so heavy for her, as well as for my uncle and aunt, and the other two cousins and their families. Also for Jeremy’s sister, Tiffany, who is taking this very hard, as well.

We’ll be staying one more night here, and heading back home tomorrow.

Oh, and also . . . this morning we have received news that Paul Kantner, founding member of Jefferson Airplane, has died at 74.

TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL

(From Praying With the Psalms)

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun,
which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Psalm 19

The psalmist expresses his delight with two things in this Psalm. First, he marvels at the creation; the moon and stars, the heavens that “declare the glory of God.” In the second part, he expresses his respect and delight for the Scriptures, the law of the Lord. They are “packed with delightful instruction, an unending and dependable source of God’s wisdom.”

“I look at your creation, O God, and see inexhaustible evidence of your power to order and to make. I read your word and find a sure revelation of your will to save and to love. Both where I live and how I live are your work. Hallelujah! Amen.”

I’m really struggling to be “spiritually minded,” this morning. This, too, shall pass, as they say. I’m sure of it. I’m going to make sure that I give a little more notice to the creation around me, as I travel around in east Texas for the rest of our time here. There is plenty of creation to see out here.

Father, let your creation speak to me of your glory and majesty during these next couple of days. May your comfort and peace envelope my cousins, aunt, and uncle as we mourn Jeremy’s passing today. And let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight.

Come, Lord Jesus!

Grace and peace, friends.
